Bentota

Our first days in Sri Lanka was spent relaxing on the beach in Bentota. It is only 1,5-2 hours drive for the airport, and therefore a good starting point.

Lodging
We stayed at Avani Bentota resort and spa
The hotel is by the famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. They have large familyroom with nice verandas facing the sea. I recommend room 115.

Turtles
There are several turtle conservation centers in nearby Kosgoda. Here one can see baby turtles and larger turtles that are not able to make it on their own in nature.

Train to Galle
The train ride to Galle takes 2 hours and is a scenic excursion. Be aware of the men at the Galle trainstation pretending to work for the railways and trying to help you with timetables and "licensed" tuktuk drivers.
