Jaffna
Jaffna has returned to normal life after the long civil war, but there are still many signs that this area of Sri Lanka needs time to get on its feet. Mineclearing and resettlement of displaced Tamils are still going on.
In this predominatly Tamil area there are vibrant Hindu temples to visit. Above from the healing springs at Keerimalai Spring and the Naguleswaram Shiva Kovil.
The spectacular temple in the middle of the city; Nallur Kandaswarmy Kovil
The Jaffna Public Library was burned down in 1981 and world renowned Tamil documents went up in flames. It is rebuilt and worth a quick visit.
For a very interesting read about the civil war, and the situation of the Tamil resistant groups, I really recommend Tea Time with Terrorists by Mark Stephen Meadows.
