Tangalle
Tangalle is all about peaceful beaches and quiet days picking seashells in the sand.
There are several beaches in Tangalle and we stayed at Madilla beach. When we visited in October the sea was rough and it was not safe to swim in the ocean. However, 900m down the beach (in front of Mangrove beach chalets) there is a natural pool made up by protecting rocks, and here it is possible to swim.
Lodging
We stayed at Ganesh garden cabanas and really enjoyed it. It is surrounded by the sea to the south and the lagoon to the west. Here you can relax in a hammock, have your breakfast beachside, paddle a canoo (for free) in the lagoon, play boules in the sand and generally just relax. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
For the first nights we stayed in the family room above the reception, and it fit a family of four well. The last night we had to move, and stayed in two single rooms next to eachother on the second floor next to the restaurant. This also worked well for a family, but we prefered the family room.
Other lodgings in the area:
Cinnabar resort
Mangrove Beach chalets
The last house Geoffrey Bawas design hotel/house
Tangalle Bay:
Nuga Eden is located close to Tangalle Bay, and this is a beach where swimming is possible all the time.
Eating
We had a lot of our meals at Ganesh and especially enjoyed the fresh fish. We also ate at Cinnabar and had the best pizza from the woodfire oven.
